Sabanalarga

Municipality located about 72 km from Medellín according to the route considered, with the capital located around 850 meters above sea level; its population is around 9,000 inhabitants. Founded in colonial times (first settlements and erected as a municipality in the 18th century), its economy is mostly rural and agricultural, with a tradition of local productive activities and smaller farms, while its attractions include natural landscapes such as lagoons and streams, as well as historical heritage in its urban area.

Sabanalarga has received more than $57.7 billion that have promoted a social, environmental and productive transformation in the territory. Environmental and social management, with more than $40.927 million — including $636 million executed in 2024 — has strengthened programs for sustainable development, quality of life and environmental protection. Added to this is more than $14.234 million in additional social investment for housing, education and community projects.

The 1% investment, with $2,435 million, has supported strategic environmental initiatives, while the PAE, with $166 million — and $102 million in 2024 — has reinforced risk management and social care.

These resources are reflected in improvements to educational and community infrastructure, community training programs, productive projects and actions that consolidate a sustainable development model for the municipality.
